Courtney's Breast Re-Augmentation
When Courtney was in her 20's, she was a professional modern dancer in New York City and her flat-chested look was an asset to her career, since it helped her show off clean, elegant movements. She never gave much thought to her breast size then, but later, after having 2 children, she had full breasts for the first time in her life. Her clothes fit better, she felt more like a woman, and she really liked having curves. But once she stopped breastfeeding, those curves disappeared. In 2001, she decided to have breast augmentation to go from a size 32A to a 32B.
Meeting Dr. Benedetti
"He knows how to listen to patients."
Following her dance career, Courtney entered the healthcare profession. She says, "Once I got into the medical field, I knew the difference between saline and silicone gel implants. And I soon realized I wanted to move to gel." She thought about it for a year and in 2007 began her search for a plastic surgeon to perform her re-augmentation.
She consulted with 4 different surgeons before meeting with Dr. Jeremy Benedetti. With those first surgeons, she felt that some information was glossed over and even that she received misinformation. Dr. Benedetti provided an entirely different experience for her. Courtney says, "He knows how to listen to patients. He's very honest with expectations and being realistic - there's no ambiguity."
Silicone Gel Breast Implant Surgery
"I had such confidence in Dr. Benedetti, I was excited."
On the day of her breast augmentation procedure, Courtney had no concerns or nervousness. "I felt like I'd been through the procedure before and I knew what to expect as far as pain. I had such confidence in Dr. Benedetti, I was excited." This time, she received larger implants (375 cc) to bring her to a size 32C.
Following surgery Courtney recalls, "I was surprised by how good I felt." She was especially happy with how easily her recovery went. Courtney remembers, "I had the surgery on Friday, was off my pain medication by Sunday, went in for my first post-op visit on Monday, and was back to work on Tuesday." She experienced no bruising and very little swelling. She credits Dr. Benedetti with her success. "I knew that I had a great surgeon who was going to do a great job. Dr. Benedetti is very skilled at what he does and he has a real artistic eye for detail."
After Two Surgeries, One Clear Word of Advice
"It's important to do the research."
Courtney is happy to offer advice to others who might be considering breast augmentation or other cosmetic surgery. Her strongest recommendation is to do your homework. She says, "I think it's important to do the research. Find somebody who is board certified - maybe dual-board certified in surgery and plastic surgery." She's even a bit biased toward younger doctors, believing they tend to be more tuned in to the latest technologies and training. She recommends that potential patients ask a lot of questions, and spend plenty of time with the physician (not just their nurse) so they can have an enjoyable and satisfying surgical experience.
